Boston Rise (BR) is an initiative to lift art, culture, and community in the city of Boston. With support from the Boston Foundation as a 2018 Live Arts Boston grantee, we provide a platform for socially conscious music and art from the city to be heard, seen, and felt by the world. Our aim is to spotlight those artists and their work locally, regionally, and nationally through recordings, events, and tours.
what we do
why it matters
Boston is known for our world class colleges and universities, booming tech scene, and winning sports teams. What often goes under appreciated is our rich and talent-filled arts community, due in part to the fragmentation and equity and inclusion challenges in the space. Caught in the middle of it all are a generation of creative young people in Boston with something to say. They too face the challenges that can come with living in cultural and socioeconomic silos. Their experience can be even more precarious, given the complexities of growing up in a world of fake news, negative messaging, and social media hype. All of these can present variable threats to their development as artists, and people.
how we do it
We pair working artists in the city together with youth creators to record an album and develop visual content that promotes positivity and social responsibility.
Youth artists co-create original works with their adult counterparts and receive mentorship throughout the production process. These exchanges are documented, along with other project related events, and published in a documentary about BR.
Live performances are shared at local clubs, schools, and other venues throughout Boston and beyond featuring BR artists and the work they have created. Their musical and visual stories will be available to audiences worldwide on all popular digital distribution channels.
